Deinonychus, status update, and feathers!

Hello everyone, today we would like to talk about two somewhat unrelated topics, both very important to the community. This will be a lengthy blog post, so get ready.

The first subject is the first patch (aka 1.1). Progress on it is slow but steady. We are taking our time with it as there is no official deadline, because the more time we have the better the patch will be. We guarantee however we are trying to finish it up in the shortest time possible. Just to reassure everybody we will precise below what is its current state and what exactly you can expect in it:

We already fixed some issues, mostly related to the AI and building placement. Not only the AI of both the T.rex and Gallimimus is now working, but it also is slightly more advanced than before, even though it’s not completely ready yet. The fence and building system work beautifully now as you are able to place gates. We also completely revamped the level and the lighting, thus improving graphics, not to talk about several changes to the main menu and to the UI.

However, before we release this improved version of the demo we still want to finish up the AI, and add some features such as an auto-update launcher, a pre-game terrain editing menu, and other different game windows, tabs, messages, etc., just to expand the lore a little bit and make it more interesting all together. Furthermore, we will make sure to optimize as much as we can and support for Win-32 and Mac before releasing this version.

But enough about this. Who else likes feathers? Yes, we want to talk about the feather and scale options, a subject we haven’t seriously touched in a while. As we have been accuracy nuts since the beginning, you may already know some dinosaurs will have a scaly/feathered option. But which ones exactly? All coelurosaurs (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelurosauria for those of you who might not know) will have just a feathered model, without any scaly option (except for T.rex and Gallimimus, because, well, they already have a scaly model). All the other theropods, and also most of the other dinosaurs will have both a scaly and feathered/quilled option. This means you will be able to choose whether dinosaurs like Allosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Triceratops, etc. will be feathered/quilled, or not. The only animals that will be scaly by default, without any feather option, will be the majority of sauropods. So yes, quite a lot of dinosaurs will have both a feathered and scaly variant that you will be able to choose, except for the most bird-like dinosaurs (again, coelurosaurs), because, well, this is 2015. 😉

For this account, check this feathered Deinonychus pair, one of the 8 species to be included in the demo at a later stage. Thank you for your time, stay tuned for later updates as always, and enjoy! 🙂

  1. take your time, this game deserve it. btw will we get modern animals???

  2. So to save everyone research; dinosaurs with feathers (full stop) should be all tyrannosaurs (but T rex with option), all ornithomimids (but Gallimimus with option), all ‘raptors’, all therizinosaurs, Oviraptor, Gigantoraptor, Compsognathus, Ornitholestes and any small very bird like species (e.g Archaeopteryx and Jeholornis).

Credit to Sniper’s species list post for reference; list may not be valid for final game but gives good idea of the Coelurosaurs as a group 🙂

  3. thx for updating the page i was really starting to lose hope and take your time the better the update the longer we can all enjoy 🙂

  4. This is awesome! Take your time, I come on here almost everyday or so or weeks. To check and see if their is any updates or news of the progress of the games. I wish you guys luck, also I am working on a dinosaur game myself by myself. ^ ^” As I am learning and taking my time. Sadly only a few people know about my game which is on my forum, 🙂 anyways just to let you guys know. Keep it up the good work!

  5. Can you put Brontosaurus (2015 evidence), Amphicoelias Fragillimus, Agustinia (Spike and Quilled/Non-Spiked and Non-Quilled for some people), Alamosaurus, Puertasaurus, Limusaurus, Gojirasaurus, Elasmotherium, Smok, Bluebuck, Qianzhousaurus, Sereno’s Digging Raptor, Two Medicine Formation Tyrannosaurid, and Multi Color Kaprosuchus as DLC Please.

Guy’s, please make All Coelurosaurs have Feathered and Scale option, because I don’t like my Gorgosaurus and Tarbosaurus for example feathered. Please respond for my questions.

Please make some Prehistoric Crocodile Concept art. I just ask to see the Kaprosuchus. 🙂

  6. Can you please make concept art for Meganeura, Pulmonoscorpius, Arthropleura, Anomalocaris, Pterygotus, Mongolarachne Jurassic, Arctic Troodon, Troodon formosus, Andrewsarchus, Baryonyx, Suchomimus, Nasutoceratops, Microceratus, Estemmenosuchus, & Helicoprion.

  7. JUST feathered for all coelurosaurs? I mean, I get that for the maniraptorans, (and yes, it IS 2015) but we don’t know a lot of stuff still. I mean:
-While most tyrannosaurs likely had feathers at some point in their life, Yutyrannus is the only one confirmed to have feathers as an adult.
-Who says all ornithomimids were feathered? Who says that any were?
-Would something like Compsognathus really need feathers? Would Allosaurus? Maybe as chicks, but these things lived in the greenhouse of the Jurassic.
-And again, while all maniraptorans almost certainly had feathers, what about those who enjoy Jurassic Park? I mean, the scaly raptor image was accepted for many, many years.

  8. Hi. Amazing work as always. I just got something to say about the deinonychus model, I think their third finger’s foot claws look way too small, almost the same size as the others. You really need to fix that since that is their most iconic feature. Thank you.

  9. two weeks ago was my last comment this really needs to go faster at lest give us a t-rex and feathered gallimimus and all the stuff you have right now

    • Calm down if you want a good patch so let them take thier time!

  10. This has been here over a month. Can you show us anything (preferably concept art on dilophosaurus). I’m going to start to do a YouTube series when patch 1.1 comes out.

  11. Please make all Giant Tyrannosaurids (Except Yutyrannus) to have a Scaly Option. The other types of dinosaurs you listed to have feathers can have feathers.

Also, please make option so that the ceratopsians with quills should eat only plants, because the omnivorous ceratopsians concept is BullShit! Sorry for the cuz, that’s because I grew up with ceratopsians as herbivores
